Helicopters floating on Water!

April 2009

“It looks fantastic – the surface is just like a swimming pool”, was the comment from an extremely happy RESPOL customer. RAF Valley Anglesey contracted RESPOL to work on the floor in their 207 Hanger which houses £5m worth of RAF rescue helicopter. The base is used for, amongst other things, RAF special rescue helicopter training for the Nigerian Airforce.

RESPOL had to infill all joints to prevent small parts being lost and then primed the hanger floor with one coat of Reeprime EP550 moisture tolerant primer followed by two coats of Reecote EC017 high build solvent free epoxy coating. The helipad area was also completely refinished in Reeflor EL002SF which is a 2mm trowel applied self smoothing screed.

All of the materials used were RESPOL’s own with the finished surface specification being heavy point loading and resistant to chemicals and a selection of hydraulic oils and aviation fuels.

RESPOL not only improved the slab but created a clean, bright environment with 15% improved light quality. Oh and according to the customer, a hanger that looked like a swimming pool.
